[1739] It is located alongside the other institutions at today’s 5 Park Street (then Sentry Lane). Meant “for the idle and dissolute poor,” the facility is replaced by a new building (second) on the same site in 1748,* and then another (third) in South Boston in 1822.* A House of Industry – “for the unfortunate poor” – is later opened in South Boston in 1826.* [1822)
